The ship, the mostly unappreciated yet undeniable emblem of the city of Johannesburg, was gone. The skyline seemed strangely blank. Even after sundown Black Jack had barely looked away from his window at the empty twilight sky. They needed to hurry. The hour had probably almost passed if it hadn't already, and they still needed to get to the bridge. Michael's mate could arrive any moment and they didn't want to be left behind.
Meanwhile, Ana spoke on her phone as they trotted through open ground, keeping away from the road.
"Ana?" said Syrup's voice. "Where have you been? I've been calling your cell phone for two days."
